Itamar, Kristian, Sam and Dimitris make up one of London’s newest indie bands, Secret Cameras. The first track of their debut EP It Doesn’t Matter has secured the four piece plays on BBC Introducing and Radio X, confirming them as ones to watch for this year. The EP has now been released in full, providing us with six tracks to show what Secret Cameras are really about.
There’s an atmospheric feel flowing throughout the entire EP, with It Doesn’t Matter getting the whole thing off to a beautiful start. Itamar’s melodic yet unique vocals fit perfectly with the constantly building intensity throughout, switching from soft and calming to intense and slightly dramatic in all the right places.
It took a few attempts for me to really get into this EP, but when the mood was right and I was able to focus on the atmosphere it creates I found myself drawn in. For me it’s the kind of sound I’d want to hear on a chilled evening rather than something that’d be a permanent fixture in my playlists, but that definitely doesn’t take away from the quality of it.
Something about Secret Cameras is intriguing. Perhaps it’s how they’ve put out a six track EP as their debut, or maybe it’s that when you listen to this EP properly it feels like something from a film soundtrack; either way this is a stunning debut which perfectly displays the band’s capabilities.
