Spaceman Dreams is just about the most innocent song title I've seen all week, and the track itself - by Cumbrian band Sugarspun - is as optimistic and joy filled as its title suggests.
Everything about the song screams 90's nostalgia; from the guitar tone to singer Jamie's Gallager-brother-esque vocals. Spaceman Dreams is The Dandy Warhols and Oasis smashed together in a head on collision, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Whilst there are two guitar solos in the track (the likes of which would usually bring me out in hives), the band get away with it, a kind of reminder that guitar based music isn't as dead as the charts would have you believe.
Ultimately Spaceman Dream is kind of charming; an infectious antithesis to the current indie soundscape. It's only Sugerspun's second studio release, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do next.
