Blue Bendy - Closing Sound

It would be easy to misconstrue that Blue Bendy have a rather scant online presence, that after extensive countrywide gigging for over a year and a recent support slot for the mighty Bull during Independent Venue Week, there must at least be an EP to satiate those craving more?

But Blue Bendy are a band that carve their own path, purposely defying their expected route and choosing instead to let live performances speak for themselves whilst they work on perfecting their sound. That is until now, as Closing Sound is a single that pays testament to the aforementioned approach.

This song is perfectly imperfect, with jagged guitars and an ethereal keyboard joining an Ought-esque vocal to create a song eclectic enough to sit as comfortably at a table with The Cure as it could Iceage or King Krule, presumably to discuss the beauty in idealised sadness.

Equally articulate in poise is the mellow female vocal which creeps forward to compliment the singers’ softly crooned post-punk vocal to produce an instant avant-garde classic. Closing Sound is precisely the type of single that’s worth the wait, with time well spent on producing a song that’s catchy yet still retaining unconventional charm.
