The Lids’ newest single, Beef Baby kicks off with a very psychedelic synth and complex bassline, both mixing perfectly, before a Robert Smith-esque vocal takes to your eardrums. Detailing dismay at getting older and maturing, this tune could easily be a hidden B-Side from The Cure’s back catalogue.
Beef Baby certainly has some dancey qualities reminiscent of Prodigy or Chemical Brothers’ more guitar driven tunes. The lo-fi vocals perfectly describe the dark, uncertainty in most people’s lives as they mature, thrust into a wide world with “adult fears”. This release speaks volumes about the disarray when leaving adolescence and trying to figure out the ways of the world with little help.
