Birmingham pop rockers The Assist follow up their summer of touring with a smasher in their latest single, I Don’t Care.
Frustration is the theme throughout I Don’t Care, starting with held back melodies that are dying to break into something heavier. If you’re fooled into thinking this is Two Door Cinema Club territory, you’re soon corrected by vocalist Mikey Stanton’s blunt Brummie accent for grizzly, punk-rocker vibes a-la Slaves.
I Don’t Care is an ode to the relationship that’s losing all fun. Jumping into an infectious chorus and plucky, funky guitar rifts, the song itself totally the opposite. Get out your frustrations, kids, by singing along to the catchiest "screw you" ever written.
Youthful, relatable, and a little bit edgy, The Assist are established as residents in the Birmingham performance scene for their perfect intersection between danceable and moshable.
