Circe - Ruined Your Sons

London based dark-pop starlet Circe first grabbed our attention with her call to arms for womxn, Ten Girls; now, alongside the announcement of her debut EP, She’s Made of Saints, she continues to impress with the emotive new single Ruined Your Sons.

The track maintains the eery film score feel which had us hooked on Ten Girls, giving off a very Grimes/FKA Twigs vibe using atmospheric synths and incredibly immersive vocals; but it’s Circe’s ability to tell a story in such an artistic way which truly sets her apart.

As she explains, “The song journeys through a story of the male gaze, battling with a sensitivity I believe/hope is buried beneath the surface of machismo.

It tackles society’s obsession with hyper-masculine performance and bravado, how it destroys the inherent sensitivity we are born with. People in power have let generations of young people down. From the lack of in-depth queer-inclusive sex education that actually represents contemporary sex lives to the under-representation of the female gaze in porn.”

Circe is a defiant artist with mountains of talent, her She’s Made of Saints EP promises to be an exceptional listen when it drops via Jazz Life on 25th October.
