Elephant Castle is the new, retro inspired indie rock project from LA based singer and multi-instrumentalist Phil Danyew. Having spent the past six years as a touring member of Foster The People, Danyew recently quit the band to pursue his own music, the result is debut single Cool To Be Unhappy.
Written about “a girl I once loved who thought it was cool to be unhappy”, the track sees Elephant Castle take on the break-up ballad with a difference. Danyew’s musical experience shines bright in his debut, 60’s rock influences and a love for analog synths make for a truly exciting, polished piece of indie rock drenched with dreamy synth lines, layered vocals and hints of psychedelia.
Undoubtedly a treat for fans of Tame Impala, Elephant Castle is certainly a name to keep an eye on in coming years.
