Carolyne Neuman, better known as Novi may be a new name to a lot of us, but her brand of electro-pop may well ring a few bells when you press play.
The rising star has kicked off her career with some truly impressive sync spots, and the streaming stats to match. Whether it be soundtrack spots on Netflix’s Marvel series’ The Punisher’ or ‘Jessica Jones’, MTV’s ‘Fakin’ it’ or CW’s ‘Charmed’, Novi’s adrenaline filled pop is a force to be reckoned with.
As she begins to make a name for herself outside the world of TV, we sent the Oregon-born, LA-based starlet some questions to learn more about her musical journey so far.
Tell us a bit about yourself and how long you’ve been making music for?
Hi! Im Carolyne Neuman AKA Novi, I've been making music for many years, I remember as a kid singing and writing songs in my head. I remember writing a song about the stars haha.
At what point in your life did you decide to make a career out of your music, and what influenced that decision?
I think it was around the time I got my first placement on a TV show, which was "One Tree Hill” in 2011. That made it real that there was possibility for me to thrive in my own little way.
What is the main source of influence for your songwriting?
It ranges so much!! Lately my songwriting is fuelled by a deep compassion for humans, I just want to uplift everyone as much as I can. On the other end, I would say intense heartbreak, which I've experienced a lot of in my years.
What is something you’ve learned about yourself through making music?
Great question, The biggest thing I've learned is to follow my intuition on the projects I choose, and enjoy the process. It's not the final product but the energy you put into the creation of it that makes it what it is. This is true in life. It's the journey and the moments going by, not the end goal that matters!
What is something you wish you’d known when you first got into the music industry?
I wish I had known early on to simply write songs, lots of songs! Everyday. I think I got caught up in the business of it all, and truly what matters are those songs you’re writing.
Tell us a bit about hearing your music on TV shows, how has it affected your career?
That has been very cool!! I'm so grateful for the slots I’ve gotten. I would say it's been one of my main motivating factors to keep going and creating.
Who are some of your favourite upcoming artists from the US?
Ohhh so many! Not all from the US but Elephant Heart, Lucy Daydream, Noga Erez, Winona Oak to name a few.
What would your dream tour & rider look like?
Ohh lala! I would love to tour in Europe. Ideally run the festival circuit, and just let it absolutely out on that stage. I miss that so much!!
Ideal rider: I'm might be kinda boring with this one!! Lots of Essentia water, green juice. Cold brew, sweet potato chips, protein bars, veggies and dip, and dry farm wine!
What’s the bucket list goal for you as an artist?
Win a Grammy!!!
