Edinburgh’s latest indie export comes in the form of swim school; a charismatic four-piece with a truly huge sound. A prime example of generational, anthemic indie rock, the band today share their second single of 2021; 'Outside'.
Alice Johnson’s dainty vocals set over a grungy roaring chorus give ‘Outside’ an edge akin to that of Wolf Alice or Foals. Grumbling bass and punchy percussion (perfected by new drummer Billy McMahon) play into the angsty lyrics. As Alice describes, “Outside is based on the negative impact the toxic people have on your mental health and the moment you realise how toxic they are.” It’s compelling stuff, and a sure sign that the band’s trajectory is set to be high.
